Farewell Ricky Garduno

I am sad to say that Ricky Garduno has passed away, losing a long battle with depression.

Ricky was a board artist on El Tigre. We had a lot of great artists on the show, but Ricky was special. His work always stood out.

Like his boards, Ricky was rebelious, anarchistic, and undisiplined. But also passionate, hilarious, and at times brilliant.

Ricky and I didn't always see eye to eye. But I will say this: Ricky was the closest thing to a true Artist that I've ever know. I admired him, and have often wished I had the courage to be more like him. He lived by his beliefs and his ideals.

Ricky boarded the series finale of El Tigre. And it seems a fitting tribute to post that here.

Farewell, Ricky. You will be missed.

Holy crap. Is it current practice to board out the dialogue that tightly when you're sending stuff overseas? With library-heavy stuff? Or was it just what y'all ended up doing on El Tigré to keep it from looking terrible because the whole industry was still figuring out best practices for Flash production?

The amazement at the DETAIL on the dialogue in this board has completely overwhelmed the pain I feel at Ricky's death.

Hey Peggy,

We did things a little differently on Tigre than the rest of the industry. One of those things was a character layout pass on key scenes, so we could have really specific acting and mouth shapes for the important scenes.

I remembered a funny thing about Ricky's boards last night. I could always pick his out of a stack - without even looking at the drawings - because they were a full inch thicker than everyone else's. He always gave so much more.

Aaaah, so your story boarders were also essentially doing layout, it makes sense now. Those are SUPER tight.

I've just heard an amazing news: There will be a brand new season of "Fairly Oddparents"! Do you know something about the upcoming episodes?

@Marekos: It's true.
